ABOUT ME

Hey there, I’m Emily, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA LMFT #155054). I am a first generation, mixed race Chicana, native Los Angeleno, chingona (pero chillona) and mother of two.

I attended Loyola Marymount University and received my BA in Chicana/o Studies + Fine Art Photography in 2004, then went on to receive my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Child Therapy with a specialization in Latinx Families from Pacific Oaks College in 2010.

My journey to becoming a therapist began through my work with marginalized foster and probation youth. Bearing witness to their pain, resilience, and the impact of systemic injustice pulled me toward this path. I saw how much it mattered for someone to show up with consistency, care, and curiosity—and I wanted to be that person. I also know firsthand the power of therapy as a client myself. That experience helped me understand that healing doesn’t come from fixing people, but from creating a space where they feel seen, safe, and deeply respected. What drives me is the belief that healing is not just personal—it’s cultural, generational, and collective.

I’m especially passionate about working with Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities, helping clients unlearn harmful narratives, reconnect with their truth, and move through the world with more self-trust and liberation.

I take a trauma-informed, relational, and culturally responsive approach to therapy, working with teens, adults, and LGBTQ+ clients navigating trauma, identity, anxiety, and life transitions—creating space that honors your lived experience, values, and voice.

Guiding Principals in my Practice

  • Therapy doesn’t happen in isolation. We carry our identities, histories, and the impact of larger systems—racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, classism—into the therapy space.

I believe healing work must acknowledge this.

  • In my practice, I approach therapy through a lens that is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, and actively anti-racist. I strive to create a space where all parts of you are seen and valued—not just as an individual, but as someone moving through a world shaped by systems of power.

Mental health is personal and political. Our work together can be a space not just for healing, but for reclaiming voice, agency, and truth.
